"Closet" Emily Barker

Between my art practice, traveling to give talks about disability, painful debilitating autoimmune disease, dealing with austerity laws, and spinal cord injury I don’t have much time. These are just looks I put together for different events the past year. The biggest difficulty is each garment has to be flattering for my disability, fit an odd body shape and comfortable enough for the intense pain I’m in.
I think the fast fashion industry is bad for the planet but I also love an interesting fabric and clothing cuts so I get sucked in. I got most of this for free, thrifting and from off modeling jobs. It’s all very comfortable because of the pain I’m in. I’m currently fundraising to get the rare disease I have in remission it’s extremely debilitating and keeps me from being able to walk, sleep, eat, and makes survival extremely difficult.
