Photographer Alejandro Cabezut captures the ephemeral and sublime moments of queer communities in Mexico City—reveling in both the intimate feelings and joyful moments experienced by Alejandra Bogue Gomez, Silvertonic, Posse, Zemmoa, Ariel and Vanessa, as they see it. The resulting portraits are a meditation on freedom, expression, community, and the importance of chosen family.
Ariel, who was born in Mexico in 2001, has always had a great interest in fashion. As both a trans model and fashion student, Ariel explores the connections between fashion illustration and garment construction as forms of self-expression and beauty.
Makeup artist, model, actor, performer are some characteristics that are part of Arturo as an artist, who through 'Posse', their drag queen character, manages to unite these disciplines to create different fantasies.
'Posse' began making their way into the underground parties of Mexico City in order to promote and represent inclusivity and diversity, qualities that the night scene lacked at that time. From this, they have had the opportunity to perform in various cities in Mexico, Canada and the U.S. No matter where they perform, or their seemingly changing appearance, their essence as an artist is what makes them unique within the drag scene, because 'Posse' Is 'Posse'.
Zemmoa defines herself as a multidisciplinary artist. Among the activities she carries out are those of: producer, videographer, model, painter, actress, and at times a jewelry designer. Although she stands out in the cultural sphere as a singer-songwriter and pianist, an active member of the Society of Authors and Composers of Mexico (SACM).
She describes herself as: "An artist in constant learning." She has managed to position herself as one of the most avant-garde talents in Mexico, while her proposal breaks paradigms rarely seen on the national scene, given their courage in making the queer-trans population visible. Critics have seen in her performances a reinvention of Mexican pop.
From a very young age, Alejandra Bogue was deeply involved in her own artistic practice and gender identity. Hailing from Mexico City, Bogue’s modelling career launched her into spectacular motion when she moved to Acapuclo; eventually starring in the play Baal, directed by Bertolt Brecht in the ‘80s. Bogue’s theatre career gained further momentum during the ‘90s, when she starred in other plays; Actos de Faith for the onlookers, Today's Occurrences, Generation 2000 Divertidus, Under the Sigil of the Moon, Nocturnal Scream, Elegy for Absent Souls, Cancun Project and Ephemeral Dances. In 1997, she received the Bogue received the prize for Female Revelation from the AMCT (Mexican Association of Theater Critics). Undeniably, Bogue, a Mexican trans actress, comedian and performer, became a veritable diva in her own right: in 2012, she was crowned “Queen of LGBTQ Pride,” starred in numerous television shows, and spoke on panels with other political figures about trans rights. Presently, Bogue’s creativity continues to reach epic proportions across artistic, social, and political realms.
La Barbie Chola. SILVERTONIC is an artist, performer, musician, designer, and singer-songwriter. In short, they are a queer icon in the independent scene and a point of reference of the LGBTQ + community. Their proposal and style celebrate freedom of expression; union and inclusion—positioning them as one of the key characters of alternative pop culture in Mexico.
SILVERTRONIC, celebrates diversity, inclusion, union and freedom of gender and expression. Their songs tell their story through performance. Their song "La Peluca Radioactiva" is an anthem about identity expression and queer liberation—resonating both with the people that already know it, as well as new fans in the mainstream.
